About Us

ElectroTech

We are a FIRST® Tech Challenge robotics club from St. Mary's School, Pune, India. Our club comprises two teams: Electrohephathenix and SM Tech. Together we are known as 'ElectroTech'.

ElectroTech 2012-13 outside the school's IT Laboratory, with our mentors

Robotics was introduced to our school in 2011, in the girls' section. A club of 15 girls began working on a robot named 'Phoenix' for the 2011-12 FTC® game 'Bowled Over!' and the team was named 'Electrohephathenix'. Soon, robotics was introduced in the boys' section of the school, and 5 boys joined the robotics club. 5 girls of Electrohephathenix along with the 5 boys formed team 'SM Tech', working on their robot 'Chitti', and thus 2 teams from St. Mary's School entered in the FTC Bowled Over! India National Tournament.
Team SM Tech placed first in the India National Tournament, and was thus invited to participate in the FTC® World Championship, held at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Missouri. The team had a wonderful experience with the other teams participating in the Championship in St. Louis.

The next academic year, a screening test was held, with 40 students being selected for the robotics club, including a few from the 2011-12 team. We awaited the announcement of the 2012-13 FTC® game, and as soon as 'Ring It Up!' was introduced on the FIRST website, we got to work.
We split into 4 teams: RoboKnights, Roboltzz, Time Lords, and Argonauts. Each team worked on its own robot.
Before the Christmas break, peer and mentor assessment took place, and 20 students were selected for the 2 final teams of St. Mary's School. Following the Christmas break, the 20 students selected, 10 girls and 10 boys, split up into Electrohephathenix and SM Tech, the girls' and boys' team respectively. The 4 old robots were modified and integrated, resulting in 'Nimbus 3000', the robot of Electrohephathenix, and 'Bolt', the robot of SM Tech
These robots were modified further and practised with, until we journeyed to Genesis Global School in Noida for the India National FTC® Tournament.
Team Electrohephathenix placed third overall, and was thus invited to participate in the Asia-Pacific FTC® Open, to be held in Sydney. We are now trying to gain sponsors to raise funds for the journey to Sydney and general further support of St. Mary's School Robotics.
